The Journey of a Pastor’s Heart

Twice a month, we spotlight the extraordinary stories of ordinary people who’ve answered God’s call—dedicated teachers shaping young minds, compassionate care home workers nurturing our elderly, and passionate pastors growing our faith communities. What does it take to follow God across seven countries and two decades of goodbyes? For me, it began in a small town in the Philippines, where ministry wasn’t just a career—it was the air I breathed. My father was a pastor, my mother a teacher, and their devotion to the Seventh-day Adventist Church shaped every corner of our home. From elementary school onward, my classmates often

Our Day of Friendship and Hope

As Victoria Avenue SDA Church women, we are deeply involved in our church’s mission, often hosting potlucks to foster fellowship and anchor hope in Christ. But with the Manitoba-Saskatchewan Conference’s focus on friendship evangelism, we felt a call to do more—to step outside our walls and into the community. On our Women’s Ministry Day, we planned to visit a women’s shelter to share our faith not by preaching but through simple friendship. However, a significant concern arose during our planning: What would we be allowed to say as a faith group? This fear, this uncertainty, was our challenge. But we

How We Built a Bridge of Friendship

At our church, Nueva Esperanza, our vision is to welcome and help those recently arrived in Winnipeg from Spanish-speaking countries. This thoughtful preparation by the youth committee would touch the lives of all 70 participants. Rather than conventional

A Table of Comfort in a Time of Crisis

The scent of garlic toast and bubbling lasagna drifts through the Elbert Chartrand Friendship Centre, wrapping around the room like a warm hug. For the 60 wildfire evacuees gathered here, it’s more than just a meal—a moment of peace in the middle of chaos. These families, uprooted from their homes with little more than a suitcase and a prayer, carry the weight of uncertainty. Many have faced delays and confusion around financial aid, adding frustration to fear. But inside these walls, a different story is unfolding—one of compassion, resilience, and community. Lesley Hart Sembaluk and her dedicated team are at

Together in Biggar: A Fair to Remember, A Church That Cares

The recent fair event in Biggar town was a remarkable success, bringing the community together joyfully and meaningfully. The local church played a vibrant role in serving and engaging with visitors among the many participants. For two full days, church members set up a welcoming tent to give out free bottled water, mental health resources, and fun giveaways such as frisbees, stress balls, and other goodies for children. Their presence added a warm, compassionate touch to the festive atmosphere and offered practical support to all who stopped by.   Church members worked with dedication and enthusiasm, showing a true spirit
