Indigenous Field Worker (IFW) Needed in Nunavut, Canada

The Manitoba-Saskatchewan Conference seeks a dedicated individual for long-term service (seven years or more) in this beautiful, remote region.
Job Responsibilities
As a IFW, you will be responsible for the following:
- Learning Language and Culture: Success in the region requires acquiring a new language and familiarity with the local populace’s customs and traditions. It is essential to approach the learning process with an open mind and a willingness to receive guidance from others.
- Community Outreach: In partnership with community leaders, you will create needs-based health-related outreach programs that are contextually relevant to the community.
- Spiritual Activities: You will be responsible for conducting clergy-related duties such as Bible studies and other spiritual activities that are culturally sensitive and meaningful to the community.
- Meeting Health Needs: Utilize your health and social work background to help meet the community’s needs.
Requirements
We are looking for someone who can/must:
- Serve Long-term: The successful applicant will be committed to serving long-term (seven years or more) in Nunavut.
- Learn Language and Culture: We need a dedicated individual capable of learning a new language and cultural norms to communicate effectively with the people of Nunavut.
- Be Adventurous: Maintaining a positive and open-minded outlook and a willingness to embrace new challenges is of utmost importance when flourishing in an unexplored and remote area.
Member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church: You must be a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and be able to lead and perform clergy functions such as worship services, Bible studies, anointing rituals, etc.
- Master Guide: You will work with the community’s youth and young adults. The IFW is required to be an Invested leader through the Master Guide Program. The Seventh-day Adventist Church offers this program and is the foundation for youth ministry leadership.
- Mission Service Record: The ideal candidate must have at least three to five years of experience in a cross-cultural mission environment. You must possess strong communication skills and can write reports and proposals.
- Background in Health or Social Work: The ideal candidate must have a degree or experience in public health, social work, or related fields. You must have a strong commitment and expertise to serving and supporting vulnerable communities.
