Background:

Camp Whitesand provides a place where your child can grow in a safe environment and be surrounded by positive Christian role models. The camp is located in Theodore, SK 30 minutes west of Yorkton, SK, along the beautiful Whitesand River and is surrounded by a natural forest. The natural surroundings provide an excellent place for camp activities like wakeboarding, Water Skiing, Canoeing, and swimming and 12 km of trails are used for Horseback riding, nature activities and games.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Head Cook reports to the Head Cook and assist in planning, ordering, cooking, and preparing food using standard vegetarian recipes and production guidelines while following food safety, handling, and sanitation procedures. The individual in this role should safely handle knives and equipment, including grills, fryers, ovens, broilers, etc. The assistant head Cook may assist in supervising employees and delegating responsibilities. The position’s responsibilities may vary by camp requirements and the number of campers per week.

- Enhance the experience of campers and guests by providing quality, healthy meals and ensuring high quality and safety of food products in all stages of production.
- Assist in supervising kitchen staff in receiving deliveries, ensuring all supplies are checked for quality, labelled, and stored correctly, following food safety policies and
- Assist in scheduling, assigning, and supervising daily work activities for staff up to completion.
- Assist in training and guiding staff (BOH) on job duties, standard food safety and sanitation procedures, cooking methods, etc.
- Contribute to a supportive and positive work environment by modelling inclusivity, dependability, and team cohesiveness.
- Study menus in advance with the Head Cook and understand the camp schedule to assist him in planning orders and preparing proper amounts of food for a fluctuating level of campers.
- Knowledgeable in operating machines and equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, knives etc.
- Arranges garnishes and portions of food following established guidelines.
- Maintains excellent customer service with a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc.
- Monitors safety and food handling activities on an ongoing basis, ensuring standards are excellent and appropriate at all times.
- Follows Camp Whitesand safety policies and procedures, including food safety and sanitation.
- Ensures the security of company assets.
- Assist the Head Cook in conducting thorough opening and closing checks of the kitchen to ensure that operational standard and food safety are met.

Requirements:
- An SDA member of regular standing
- Able to work well in remote areas.
- Proven experience as an assistant head Chef or Sous Chef or similar role in a restaurant or catering establishment.
- Ability to work in a busy environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Legally allowed to work or able to obtain a temporary work permit to Canada.
- Transparent criminal background and vulnerable sector search
Skills & Abilities:
- Extensive experience in cooking and food preparation
- Proficient in kitchen operations, including supervising staff, managing inventory, and meeting food safety standards.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, and flavour profiles
- Excellent leadership and management skills
- Demonstrated leadership abilities in a food service setting.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of quality.
- Can work under pressure with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Must lift, move, push, pull and carry up to 30 lbs.
- Ability to manage heavy workloads.
- Ability to stand for a long period of time
- Ability to work independently and in a team setting as required.
Schedule:
Weekdays and Weekends as needed.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of camp cooking experience preferred.
- Experience in cooking a variety of dishes (multicultural)
Licence/Certification:
Canadian Food Safety Certificate
OHS Certification preferred.
Driving license (Class 5) preferred.
